Look at Me...I'm Sewing!

Wasn't sure I was ever going to get back to it, but I decided that today was the day. Baby Vaughan has been a bit fussy the last couple of times she has been here. She doesn't take a binky or suck her thumb. She just wants her mama's boob. Since mama's boob isn't always readily available, I decided to try and provide her with something that may offer a bit of comfort. It's no boob but maybe it will help. Finny really liked his Aunt Shanny blankie, so here you go Vaughan. Its patchwork on one side and soft minky on the other. This was a good quick project to get the old machine hummin' again. Not perfect by any means but I didn't think perfection was necessary here. Just a whole lot of love, a little bit of cuddley and some good calming energy.

Sorry, I didn't bother to re-iron it after I washed it.
That's because it was needed right away.
I think she likes it.

Getting Back to the Fun STuff

It took me 3 long weeks but the blanket is finished and has been delivered to a happy customer. Whewww!



I am ready to get the nook cleaned up and back in motion. I think my first priority should be getting some bow and flower barrettes and headbands done. Why, you ask? Well take a look at what I am dealing with these days (times 2). Don't get me wrong, I love the curly hair but, oh my, it requires some serious attention. That is some crazy hair on one fantastically crazy little girl!

Feel the Thrifted Goodness

A couple of weekends ago my little sis, Lindsey, and I had a fantastic couple days of thrifting. We started at the Kane County Flea Market and this what followed me home.




Beautiful broaches for my crochet projects. I was running low but I am flush now. Time to get going on my Pay it Forwards!

Oh my goodness, do I LOVE this find! I have been carrying this bag ever since I bought it. Lindsey and I found the best booth at the market. It had probably 100 vintage bags at great prices. My sister picked up 2 and I just had to have this little beauty.

This is the best part, it's Marshall Field and Company which was bought out by Macy's over a year ago. I am a Chicago girl and I miss Marshall Fields. Makes the bag even more special!

The next day we hit my local Goodwill. Check out what I found on the bookshelves for $1.79 apiece.

I was thrilled and I find myself thumbing through just to look at the incredible images of decades gone by. Here are a couple pages of the embroidery book.

This dress screamed "Shannon". It is light and airy and I think that off the shoulder is sassy. Love it! For $4.99, who could pass that up?

This dress has great lines and reminds me of June Cleaver. I aspire to be a young, sexy June Cleaver, hot meals and all. We all can dream, can't we? I hope no feminists are reading this because I think they just puked all over themselves...sorry.

Really Missing the Nook

I am embarrassed to reveal that the Crafty Nook looks like this, though I find it strangely liberating exposing my mess. Obviously there is not a whole lot of creating going on in this disaster.

No fabric cutting has happened on this table is quite a while. I am in sewing withdrawal. I am dieing to get the second bloomer/tank set done but there is just no time lately.

I am making some progress on the baby blanket. I would like to have it done by early next week. Not likely since my hubby just informed me that he is working Saturday and we are going to visit his dad for father's day on Sunday.

But here is what I have been up to. Princess Vaughan has begun her two day a week outing to Aunt Shanny's. I have 5 kids at home with 4 under 5 years old now. Its a lot of work but totally worth it! I am just going to have to learn to stay up later if I want to get back into the Nook. I can do it!

Yeah, totally worth it.

When It Rains...

It seems to pour. Do you find that to be true? I had all of this forward momentum going with the shipment for the store and here is all I have been able to produce in the last week.

Don't get me wrong, it is a beauty of a tutu, but one?? Let me share with you the box of what still needs to be finished.



We had a little family crisis last week which took up a good portion of my time and I was commissioned to do a baby blanket as well. I feel like that project takes priority since the baby is due in 2 weeks. Yes, that's right, 2 weeks. I did steal away with my little sis and get some pretty serious thrifting done this weekend though. I will show and tell as soon as things slow down a bit.

I just wanted to share the chaos and hope for a little friendly crafter support. Now I am off to GET SOMETHING DONE...hopefully!

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?

10 years ago I was 20 years old. I lived in South Bend Indiana with my mom. I was finishing my sophomore year of college and I had a one year old baby boy. I think I was working at the Olive Garden as a server. I must say that it is surreal to think about this because my life no longer resembles that time. I learned a lot though and I wouldn't change a thing!

2. Five things on my to-do list today

1. LAUNDRY!!! The pile is over my head at this point.
2. Play with the kiddos.
3. Make a wedding mix (music mix I mean).
4. Take Jack to his baseball game (though I am secretly hoping it gets rained out and I get to go out to dinner with my hubby instead...shhhhhh).
5. Make a whole bunch of tutus.

3. Snacks I enjoy -

Wheat Thins, pretzels and cheese dip, baguette with cheese, cheese of any description really, any baked good.

4. Places I've lived -

Indiana (~9 years), Illinois (~19 years), Pennsylvania (!1.5 years) and California ( 3 months)

5. Things I would do if I were a billionaire -

Buy a second home on the ocean. Make my husbands dental practice pro-bono only - he hates charging people. Create college trusts for all of our nieces and nephews so that our sibling won't have to worry about that. Try really hard to keep our life the way it is because I don't want my kids to lose the joy in the simple pleasures of life or the motivation to work hard for what they want.
