Last Week's Theme: Celebratin' the Boo

A birthday and huge store opening all in a week's time = lots of girly fun! It all started with a sisters trip to the spa. Boo picked the place. She did some research online and found a spot that sounded great. It wasn't so great. It was not a luxury type spa, you know, the kind you hope for for a frivolous birthday experience. It was the more therapeutic sort that caters toward women seeking women. Fret not, we made the most of it with lots of giggles, a chat in the napping nook, finished off with a claustrophobic herbal wrap and a nice massage. Sometimes laughter is the best therapy!

We then headed to a yummy french bistro for wine and a croque monsieur. More chatting, more giggles. After lunch, we stopped by Sophia, the store my sister opened with a good friend. The girls there had the nicest little birthday party set up. Too sweet!

We went home for a veg-session and then got dressed for the night.

4 days later, I headed back to the city for the store opening party. I didn't take any pics that night. If you are my Facebook friend, you can see photos there. I am over the moon for my little sis. Sophia is fabulous! These girls worked so hard and the opening was a huge success. If you are ever in Chicago, you must check them out (Sophia on Oak Street). It is a mix of vintage and new. There are treasures beyond comprehension in the store. Kudos ladies and a super huge congrats!!!

In Celebration of Reclaiming Me

And to lift my sometimes sinking spirits, I hit the Nook. I haven't tackled a big project in a while. Life has been a whirlwind to say the least. Nap-time, which is my favorite time to spend in the Nook, is nearly non-existent these days. The littles are in afternoon classes now. Not my fave but what can I do? Next year when Sam is in first grade, the girlies and I will head back to mornings but in the meantime I have to work with what I've got.

Anyhoo, here is what I have been up to. I bought this book a long time ago and had yet to make a single thing. This tunic dress screamed my name and I was more than ready for a challenge.

This dress was fun. It has darts, a big center pleat and a cool collar, all of which are new to me. Sometimes a forget how good it feels to learn something new. 

Overall I am happy with this little number. I was impatient and rushed through the hem which means that I am gonna have to take it out and redo it. Oh well, one day I will quit doing that....maybe. 

A Scrumptious Knit and Yummy Yarn with Cables

Last weekend I got to spend an evening with my, oh so fabulous, sister. Not only is she the best friend a girl could ask for, she is a fashion guru and works for an amazing company that has many high fashion shops throughout the country. About twice a year, the stores have mega sales. When I say mega, I mean "Holy Cow this can't be for real" MEGA. My sweet sister thinks of me at these times and always hooks me up. Last weekend we popped into one of the stores to pick up this beauty.

This is a Stella McCartney knit. It is soft and delicious. I have already worn it multiple times. I will tell you that this sweater was originally $1100.00 (yes, I did mean to add all of those zeros). Lovely as it is, in my opinion there is no article of clothing worth that. I didn't even spend 15% of that amount. Linds, thanks for hookin' a sista up!!

As if that incredible score wasn't enough, she bough me this glorious skein of hand-spun, hand-dyed yarn from her local farmers market. The color is a happy color, you know, the kind that makes you smile when you look at it. I couldn't wait to get it on the needles. I was so inspired by this yarn that I decided to give cabling a go. I LOVE it! Can't wait until these little fingerless gloves are finished. Maybe I'll even start my Christmas crafting in July...now that would be something!
